Collection: Worcester Fire Department

Early attempts to organize firefighting in Worcester were unsuccessful until Captain Benjamin Flagg’s house burned in 1786. This prompted him and other town leaders to form the Worcester Fire Society, which required members to provide their own buckets, poles, and ladders to fight fires.

Worcester obtained its first hand-operated fire engine in 1793, and it wasn't until February 25, 1835 that the Worcester Fire Department was officially established by an act of the state legislature.

The Worcester Fire Department has a rich history spanning over two centuries, beginning with volunteer efforts and evolving into a professional organization.

Despite great heartbreak and loss of some of its own, The Worcester Fire Department continues to stand as a testament to resilience, courage, and selfless heroism.

Monopoli Ink proudly supports the Worcester Fire Department and its firefighters. ❤️

This collection is meant to showcase any and all firehouses within the department as well as helping to support them, their needs, and raise awareness for occupational illnesses and the need for protective equipment and safe living quarters.
